This website is operated by BACKCHAT PTY LTD (ABN 53 658 108 831), trading as BC Studios, part of BackChat Group. In this policy, “we” and “us” mean BACKCHAT PTY LTD. This page explains how this website handles personal information from enquiries, routine server and security logs, website analytics and embedded services.
What we collect
When you send an enquiry, we collect your name and email address, which are required. You may also provide your phone number, company or project name, the type of help you are looking for, your preferred timing and a message. We do not record your IP address with an enquiry.
Our website host and our security software record routine server and security logs, which may include your IP address, browser or device information, the pages requested and the time of each request.
We use Google Analytics 4 to understand how people use this site. It collects information such as pages viewed, session activity, approximate location, and browser and device information. Google Analytics uses first-party cookies, including _ga, to distinguish a browser and its sessions. We do not deliberately send the contents of enquiry fields to Google Analytics.
The Contact page embeds Google Maps. When an embedded map loads, your browser connects to Google and may send your IP address, browser or device information and details of the map request.
Pages also request brand-font files from Adobe Fonts and a fallback-font stylesheet from Google Fonts. Those requests expose routine connection information such as your IP address and browser or device information. Adobe also uses a font-usage image and may collect occasional font-network performance measurements.
Why we collect it
We use enquiry details to reply to you, prepare a quote and manage a prospective or confirmed booking. We use server and security logs to operate the site and protect it from attacks, analytics to measure visits and completed enquiries, and hosted fonts to display the site as designed. We do not sell personal information or use enquiry details for unrelated direct marketing.
Who else handles it
This site is hosted on Cloudways, where your enquiry is stored. Each enquiry is also emailed to our Google Workspace mailbox through SMTP2GO. Wordfence, our security software, checks requests to the site to block attacks and may share the IP addresses of blocked requests with its provider, Defiant, as part of its threat-intelligence service. Google processes website analytics information and serves Google Maps and the fallback font; Adobe serves the brand fonts. These service providers may process information outside Australia under their own privacy and security arrangements. You can read the Google Privacy Policy, Adobe Privacy Policy, SMTP2GO Privacy Policy and Wordfence Privacy Policy.
To make pages load faster, our host keeps cached copies of public pages. Those copies contain the published page only, not information about you or your enquiry.
Cookies
Google Analytics uses first-party cookies to measure visits and sessions. Google Maps may also set or read cookies when an embedded map loads. After a successful enquiry, this site may set a short-lived first-party receipt cookie solely to prevent that completed enquiry from being counted more than once. The receipt cookie is removed when the return page loads or expires within ten minutes, and is not used to follow you across websites. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings; the site will still work, although we will not be able to measure your visit.
How long we keep it
The copy of an enquiry stored on this website is scheduled for automatic deletion once it is two years old. Email and booking records may be kept longer where reasonably needed for an active client relationship, business administration, dispute resolution or legal obligations. Analytics information is retained according to the settings of our Google Analytics property and Google’s policies. Server and security logs are kept by our host and security software under their own retention settings. You may ask us to delete your information sooner; we will do so unless we need to retain it for one of those reasons.
Access, correction and deletion
To ask what personal information we hold about you, request a correction or ask for deletion, email hello@backchatstudios.com.au. We will respond within a reasonable period.
Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we have handled your information, email hello@backchatstudios.com.au and we will address it. If you are not satisfied with our response, you can contact the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au or 1300 363 992.
